Microsoft announced Live Mesh but Windows Mobile forgotten ! April 23, 2008 [General] | By Edward J. R. The same was with Silverlight and now Microsoft's new, supposedly breakthrough technology - Live Mesh - does not offer anything yet for Windows Mobile although one of the main features of Live Mesh is synchronization of various information among devices and even an icon of mobile phone is used! With Live Mesh, Microsoft hopes to combine cloud computing with Internet platform and thus have something to show against Google's Internet offerings, but once again Windows Mobile is being totally neglected. More information about Live Mesh: Imagine the possibilities Imagine all your devices—PCs, and soon Macs and mobile phones—working together to give you anywhere access to the information you care about. With Live Mesh, you can spend less time managing devices and data and more time connecting with family and friends or collaborating with colleagues. To learn more visit www.mesh.com. Note: it is ironic that Microsoft, despite protests from thousands of users, in an end-user hostile way, had removed wireless synchronization possiblity between PC and Windos Mobile, through WiFi or Internet, throug ActiveSync for PC, claiming that such synchronization is not safe. So instead of swichting it off by default and alowing it for users who use for example safe VPN connections, Microsoft has just removed this feature. Now Microsoft is introducing Live Mesh that will among others offer exactly this: synchronization between PC and mobile phones... what is confirmation that it was totally wrong decision after all. Conclusion: after Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer, also Ray Ozzie, who is a chief architect at Microsoft these days and who is the brave leader behind Microsoft's Mesh, clearly doesn't have passion for mobility in general and particularly disresepcts Windows Mobile. While Microsoft could use this opportunity of Mesh launch to promote also Windows Mobile phones by showing that one can synchronize information also betweeen Windows Mobile and Windows Vista, over the air, through the Live Mesh, Microsoft has squandered this opportunity. Through this ommision of Windows Mobile in current version of Live Mesh, Microsoft has again confirmed that Windows Mobile is a second-class citizen among Microsoft products. Is Ray Ozzie even using a Windows Mobile phone as his primary cell phone? Update: to be absolutely fair we must admit that Microsoft is doing something right in Windows Mobile area though: Live Messenger for Windows Mobile, that included as part of operating system in many (not all) Windows Mobile phones offers ability to send and receive files of messenger service! It is not a synchronization (i.e. automatic exchange of file upon connection) but it offers ability to send and receive files in Windows Mobile phones over the air.
