O2 XDA Diamond coming April 25, 2008 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R. O2 is a 3rd-class operator in Germany, where Vodafone and T-Mobile are the leading giants in mobile phone market and ePlus offers better/cheaper talk tariffs. German computer magazine "Computerwoche" runs a story where they describe what measures O2 is now undertaking to catch up with the market leaders... and these measures include not using national (!) roaming with T-Mobile network anymore, building their own HSDPA network, improving customer service... and introduction of next PDA phone from XDA series - built by HTC! This phone will be probably the same model as T-Mobile MDA compact IV pictured below, but with O2 branding. This very phone probably will be also unveiled on May 6 by HTC in London. Unlike other news sources, that give you some computer generated pictures, we actually have seen this phone in flesh:
Conclusion: T-Mobile, Orange and also (rather smaller, weaker) O2 operator, are selling a lot of HTC-manufactured phones and no wonder that HTC's next event takes place in Europe. This time HTC is clearly offering a phone in form-factor very similar to iPhone and there is no doubt , that since iPhone is restricted to only one operator per country, many operators therefore are very interested in HTC's offering.
