HTC says that Windows Mobile is more important than Google Android (yet) April 29, 2008 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R. It goes without saying that mobile operators (aka wireless carriers) need some phones that could compete with iPhone because only one operator per country got iPhone exclusivity... so it is big business opportunity for companies like HTC. Since Apple is not licensing iPhone's operating system, it is also big opportunity for Windows Mobile. Original HTC Touch was launched a month before the launch of iPhone and on May 6, roughly a month before the launch of iPhone 2.0 (with 3G and GPS), HTC will be launching next generation of HTC Touch phones: with VGA display, very thin, and with next generation of HTC TouchFLO extension for finger based navigation. According to HTC the Diamond phone powered by Windows Mobile, that will be announced on May 6, is the most important product for HTC this year, more important than Google Android -powered phones that HTC will release later this year: “This is the most important product for HTC this year,” Cheng said. “With this phone, we’re confident of landing orders from most major operators.” But Cheng also warned of possible delays in shipments, as HTC has yet to obtain certification for the new handset model.
