Sony Ericsson publishes full specifications (white paper) of Xperia X1 phone
May 28, 2008 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R.

Let's face it: the reality is that HTC brand is known only to geeks and Microsoft fanboys. On the other hand Sony Ericsson is one of the 3 biggest mobile phone brands in the world and although Xperia X1 in reality is manufactured by HTC, this information will be hidden and everybody will only know that it is a Sony Ericsson phone, i.e. a brand that everybody knows! In other words: many people who wouldn't touch a Windows Mobile phone with a barge pole, will be buying Xperia X1 gladly.

Even though this document does not confirm rumors that Xperia X1 has haptic display and tilt sensor, it confirms touch autofocus (touch places in viewfinder which should be focused), 3D graphics realized in hardware (not software), and super fast uploads (HSUPA):

Features include:
  • 3-inch Wide-VGA (800x480) TFT 65K color LCD
  • XPERIA panel concept

  • HW 3D Graphics
  • Supports microSD High Capacity memory card
  • Exchange /IMAP4/POP3 e-mail
  • Quad-band EDGE (850/900/1800/1900 MHz)
  • Tri-band HSPA X1a:(850/1900/2100 MHz) X1i:(900/1900/2100 MHz) )
Another intresting highlights:
  • video recording with VGA resolution (640x480 pixels) and 30 frames per second - optimal resolution for Internet videos
  • various variants with slight differences in supported bands and specifications will be available: X1a, X1c, X1i
  • this is already 3rd version of this white paper - published 22 May 2008
  • one of Sony Ericsson "panels" will be a RSS reader, but it is not mentioned whether it will support podcasts or not
  • memory card can be visible as removable logical disk - when connected over USB and USB 2.0 is also supported for fast transfers
