MiTAC Mio Moov 380 - a Personal Navigation Device powered by Windows CE and Soleus software from Intrinsyc - launched June 17, 2008 [General] | By Edward J. R. The main function of the device is navigation, but it is powered by Microsoft software (Windows CE) and can make phone calls! Not only mobile phones are getting built-in GPS but now also GPS devices are getting phone functionality. Note that since many GPS devices for usage in cars are powered by Windows CE (on which also Windows Mobile is based) it is only natural to observe new trend: adding mobile phone functionality to them...
Intrinsyc announced the production launch of the first handheld product to be based on their Soleus software platform for mobile devices. MiTAC International's Mio Moov 380 is a "connected" personal navigation device (PND) that not only provides GPS-navigation, but also allows users to do real-time searches for point-of-interest information, make phone calls and send text-messages. This announcement follows close on the heels of Intrinsyc being awarded a 2008 Microsoft Windows Embedded Excellence Award for driving the next generation of PNDs and Intrinsyc entering into an agreement to acquire certain assets and operations of Destinator Technologies, a provider of wireless software for GPS-devices and navigation software for wireless handsets To learn more, visit related story at Intrinsyc or related story at MiTAC.
