Intrinsyc acquires Destinator July 10, 2008 [General] | By Edward J. R. Intrinsyc makes phones powered by Windows CE, rather than Windows Mobile, but it still is a Microsoft software (and Windows Mobile itself is also based on Windows CE)... Intrinsyc closed the Destinator Technologies acquisition. Through this, Intrinsyc has acquired a mature navigation software business with revenue from established customers like Motorola and LG, and a valuable technology portfolio which includes navigation software for handsets and personal navigation devices. Also included in the acquisition are an experienced low-cost development center in China and a specialized navigation development team in Israel; the addition of which will bring the Vancouver-based Intrinsyc to approximately 375 employees worldwide. Along with capturing revenues and engineering expertise, Intrinsyc will leverage Destinator technology with its Soleus software platform, which was used in the development of the Mio Moov 380 connected navigation device and the MSI 5608 GPS-enabled mobile phone. Berg Insight estimates that GPS-enabled handset shipments will reach 560 million by 2012, and through this acquisition, Intrinsyc is becoming even better positioned in this exciting market.
