German Connect magazine interviews Lars Weisswange from HTC
July 13, 2008 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R.

Since HTC apart from Windows Mobile phones is offering a software add-on on top of Windows Mobile - HTC Touch FLO - German magazine Connect (number one in Germany in mobile phone area), in issue 08/2008, is interviewing Lars Weisswange from HTC, who is responsible for Germany, Austria and Switzerland (called "DACH" from the car licence plates of these countries) but is introduced as director of HTC Europe (in fact the top manager of HTC Europe is Florian Seiche - also a German, but located in UK):

Here are some highlights from this interview:
  • Windows Mobile is for business users and is too difficult to use for consumers, so to make Windows Mobile usable also for consumers HTC has developed TouchFLO interface
  • HTC is constantly working on extending of TouchFLO and in HTC Touch Diamond one can get the latest version - HTC TouchFLO 3D. Long-term purpose is to make all functions usable with finger.
  • Internet Explorer that is part of Windows Mobile is very criticized by many but it has some features that mobile carriers/operators are requesting (probably the built-in support for WAP is what Lars Weisswange means). In any case in new phones, like HTC Touch Diamond, HTC is including Opera Mobile 9.5 and additionally is offering integration of this browser with TouchFLO so that it is more easily usable with fingers
To read the interview (it's in German) please purchase Connect magazine issue 08/2008. To learn more about this magazine please visit connect.de.

Conclusion: HTC indirectly admits both that Windows Mobile is not easy to use (and not usable with fingers) and that Internet Explorer is also an inferior Internet browser... but at the same time HTC is adding their own software (TouchFLO) and embedding first-class 3rd party software (Opera Mobile 9.5) to avoid problems related to the fact that Microsoft is late with Windows Mobile 7 that is supposed to solve these issues. However if Windows Mobile 7 will only be playing catch-up game and not offering multi-touch, then it will fail too.
