UK: Stephen Fry slashes HTC Touch Diamond July 26, 2008 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R. Stephen Fry is a world-famous in UK when it comes to comedy, TV series and movies. Now he is also writing about gadgets and today British left-wing tabloid The Guardian has published his text, where he is talking about HTC Touch Diamond! HTC Touch Diamond is a fantastic phone but most Europeans are big guys and clearly the display is too small: the latest HTC Touch Diamond (HTC is a wonderful manufacturer permanently hamstrung by its devices all being Windows Mobile) has an accelerometer, too, and comes with a ball-manipulation game that provides tactile feedback - you can actually feel the weight and bounce of the ball as you manoeuvre it. For the rest, it is yet another iPhone wannabe: it is too small, its multi-touch interface is too slow on the uptake and the whole experience is rather fiddly. It does have the best browser on a pocket PC I’ve yet seen, however, and for those determined not to go Apple, it is (thanks to the market-changing influence of the iPhone) a superior model of its kind (RRP £499, htc.com for stockists). Read more at Stephen Fry's web site (the text is identical to that published in The Guardian). Conclusion: if you need Windows Mobile phone with big display then Samsung Omnia is coming next month already! It is a pity that HTC Touch Diamond has small display (only 2.8 inch) but in all other respects it is a worthwhile phone. Note: Stephen Fry is wrong because HTC Touch Diamond has no multi-touch display at all.
