Windows Mobile misses sales target for the fiscal year 2008 August 01, 2008 [MS Smartphone] | By Edward J. R. Fiscal year ended June 30, and apparently Microsoft no longer can pretend that everything is alright: Microsoft was planning to ship 20 million Windows Mobile licenses in that period, but in reality it has managed to sell only 18 million. While still it is a respectable figure, it was the before the launch of the major competitor that took place in July. Despite claims of Microsoft that "Windows Mobile is also good for consumers", in reality Microsoft failed to appeal to consumers and this claim was not serious but just pure marketing pep-talk as facts proved it: Zune Market place for music still not integrated inside of Windows Mobile, gaming support superficial, and promised new version of Internet Explorer delayed till 2009. In February 2007 at Mobile World Congress 2009 in Barcelona, EU, Microsoft will be showing Windows Mobile 7 and if it will have no multi-touch support, then Microsoft can forget about any sales targets - then it will be only one way: downhill. Only multi-touch support in Windows Mobile 7 can save Microsoft from long-term failure in smartphone market...
