Nokia, RIM BlackBerry and HTC are smartphone market leaders in Europe August 19, 2008 [General] | By Edward J. R. It looks like second quarter (Q2) of 2008 will be the last one, when RIM BlackBerry and HTC enjoy high positions in the smartphone market: ... because obviously iPhone 3G has big chances to overtake them this year. As of Q2 2008 however the situation in European smartphone market is such that still market leader is Nokia with 71.2 %, then comes RIM BlackBerry with 7.2 % and then comes HTC with 7%. It is clearly visible that even Apple will not be able to endanger leading position of Nokia yet, but hard times for RIM and HTC are coming! While HTC has now very good phones in offering (like HTC Touch Diamond and HTC Touch Pro) unfortunately they have much smaller displays than iPhone and are lacking 3.5 mm stereo miniplug just because HTC is totally unaware that Europeans like to use high-class stereo headsets (for example from Bose company). Apart from that such operators like T-Mobile Germany, that were selling many HTC phones in past, now are selling iPhone 3G and (we checked it ourselves) while the iPhone 3G is prominently exposed in shops, the T-Mobile-branded HTC Touch Diamond is hidden far away from the view of customers. The only way forward for HTC is to offer bigger displays (of bigger physical dimensions) and 3.5 mm strereo miniplug or otherwise face being pushed further in the smartphone market...
