Sony Ericsson releases SDK for panels of Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 phone September 04, 2008 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R. X1 is not cancelled after all, if they even release SDK (software development kit) that facilitates making applications on top of Windows Mobile 6.1 and complying to X1's panels:
Until recently it was unthinkable that Sony Ericsson will be releasing Windows Mobile phone, but now it is even releasing "Sony Ericsson SDK for Windows Mobile 6.1"! Amazing! However why to release SDK just for X1 if it is powered by Windows Mobile and regular Microsoft's SDK should suffice? The reasons: Probably (stay tuned! we will review and test this SDK soon) Sony Ericsson will make some additional APIs available so that various functions not accessible in regular Windows Mobile APIs will be accessible. Example: HTC's Touch Diamond has new sensor (tilt sensor) but since HTC has not released any SDK for it, developers were forced to reverse-engineer API for tilt sensor what means: less programs and squandered opportunity. Clearly Sony Ericsson is not repeating HTC's mistake. Developers can use the Windows Mobile SDK, free of charge, to produce a wide variety of panels to meet the consumer’s demand for a rich, individualised multimedia experience on their phone. Users of the Xperia X1 will be spoilt for choice as they personalize their handset with panel applications to suit their mood and lifestyle. Whether it is a search engine, advanced calendar or social networking application, music or film catalogue, sports or news related content, the panels enable you to access any information – quickly and directly – with a simple tap on the 3” super high resolution touch screen.
