Windows Mobile 6.1 upgrade for HTC Kaiser full of bugs?
September 13, 2008 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R.

HTC is a powerful corporation, so only few news sources dare to say something against HTC - that after all still makes most Windows Mobile phones out there... but our duty is to inform end users first and to stand up for them... so here we inform about the problems with Windows Mobile 6.1 upgrade for AT&T Tilt and other HTC Kaiser compatible phones!

Numerous users are experiencing a number of problems with the Windows Mobile 6.1 upgrade for the AT&T Tilt (TyTn II).

Given that firmware updates must get carrier approval and that AT&T is about to EOL (End of Life) the Tilt can the users even look forward to receiving an update for the bugs?

1. I am having significant problems connecting to the EDGE network for Internet, synchronization and other data uses. This is not a problem during the day when I am connected through the 3G network; it happens only when I am at home at night where there is no 3G service and the phone must use EDGE. The only way to get it to connect is to soft reset the device multiple times. The number of times seems to vary. Also, when this happens, I notice that the battery drains very quickly. I did not notice this problem when I first upgraded the ROM and let the ATT bloatware load. I noticed it only after I performed a subsequent hard reset and did a soft reset before the bloatware could load.

2. Sometimes when I press the power button on the right side of the Tilt to turn it on, I see a quick flash but the device doesn't stay on. I then have to press the power button again to turn it on. It doesn't happen all the time--I would say about once every 10 times turning on the device.

3. This could be a problem with the very buggy Opera 9.5 beta, but when I load up Opera, I frequently get a multi-colored flash of lines before the home page appears. Nothing serious, but annoying.
