Windows Mobile is retarded! ... so only lipstick can help
September 23, 2008 [General] | By Edward J. R.
In French language "retarded" means "delayed", and today it is official: Windows Mobile 7 is delayed so only lipstick, i.e. fast release of desktop-class browser with Flash for Windows 6.x - promised already by Microsoft - can save the situation!
Bad news today are that Windows Mobile 7 is delayed and the first Google Android phone has been just unveiled:
Russia-born Sergey Brin and Larry Page - the 2 Google founders and de-facto bosses of Google - were present today at launch event of HTC-manufactured T-Mobile G1 - the first ever phone powered by Google Android OS.
So Google has just launched their first phone - with push Gmail, StreetView and built-in DRM-free music store by Amazon MP3 - but what is going on with Windows Mobile in meantime!??
Situation of Windows Mobile is as follows:
- today a rumor has surfaced that Windows Mobile 7 will not be released in February 2009 as expected but in second half of 2009! Since several Microsoft employees were publicly mentioning on their blogs, that they work on Windows Mobile 7 - one cannot say that Windows Mobile 7 is unofficial so can't be delayed. It is delayed!
- Microsoft has promised in March 2008, that "in six months" they will release desktop-class Internet browser with Flash support. It has not happened but in meantime both iPhone and Google Android have such browser on-board - as integral part of the OS. Only prompt (now!!!!) release of this browser by Microsoft can save the situation.
- neither music store ( Zune Mobile ?) for Windows Mobile nor central application store for Windows Mobile are nowhere near "ready". Both Google Android and iPhone offer these features now.
Conclusion: it is official now: Windows Mobile is a retarded OS. So why should you buy Windows Mobile phone in this situation? Simple: because Windows Mobile is number one in enterprise mobility and still has some consumer features that are superior to competition: native Skype and Slingbox clients, several Internet browsers, USB logical disc mode, phones with high-quality cameras, many form factors, and more...
