Fans do what Microsoft should do: Samsung can run tilt-sensor software for HTC Touch Diamond ! September 29, 2008 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R. While we were talking with Microsoft employees (we have it "on tape") at some conferences/trade shows, then we asked about tilt-sensor API (accelerometer API) in Windows Mobile, but they told us that Microsoft leaves it to manufacturers, what is big mistake because it may lead to fragmentation of software and problems... Fortunately somebody has created compatibility layer for Samsung Omnia, what means that all that programs that use tilt sensor and were designed for HTC Touch Diamond (and compatible) can run also in Samsung Omnia! At present there is a huge risk of fragmentation in the windows mobile world, as multiple device makers implement advanced sensors, all with different implementations and SDK’s. An easy example has been the accelerometer in HTC and Samsung devices [...] implementation a translation layer which direct the accelerometer output from the Samsung Omnia through a fake HTCSensorSDK.dll, meaning many of the apps designed for the HTC Touch Diamond and Pro will also work on the Omnia To learn more visit related story about tilt sensor in Samsung Omnia. Conclusion: it is absolutely obvious that Microsoft should introduce G-sensor API in Windows Mobile and any other claim is simply big mistake! Now tilt sensor is available in HTC Touch Diamond (and other operator branded versions of it), HTC Touch Pro (and other operator branded versions of it), Samsung Omnia and several upcoming phones from GIGA-Byte communications, Acer/E-ten, etc. will also have it. The advantage of Windows Mobile is being a platform and if there will be no common API for tilt sensor then Microsoft will make big mistake.
