HP to release the first CONSUMER smartphone, mainstream media confused October 07, 2008 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R. HP has overtaken iPaq division after purchase of Compaq and HP was making smarthpones for a long, long time. However in recent days some incompetent journalists, mostly from mainstream media, are writing that HP is about to enter smartphone market! As if! The reality is that HP has been offering smartphones for a long time, and the news is: while by now HP smartphones were usually directed at enterprise market, now HP is planning to release a smartphone especially designed for consumers (it will have probably slide-out keyboard and touch-screen): Hewlett-Packard Co., aiming to grow its device business beyond corporate users, is preparing to release a new smart phone that will also be marketed to consumers, according to people briefed on the plan. The device will debut in Europe, these people say, and will be sold by a mobile carrier in retail stores.
