Times have changed: while previously Windows Mobile had to fight with Symbian (i.e. Nokia's puppet) first, these days Symbian is not even mentioned in press articles about top smartphones, like this one from today's issue of the biggest German newspaper (2 Windows Mobile phones featured!):
So, what is the main problem of Windows Mobile - as of year 2008 ? Read on! Let's make it crystal clear: the main problem of Windows Mobile phones are sluggish touchscreens, i.e. touchscreens of Windows Mobile phones are not responsive enough. The reason lies partly in the fact that contemporary version of Windows Mobile (i.e. 6.1) is designed for stylus usage, not for finger-based interactions. However the bigger part of the blame lies on manufacturers, that should deliver capacitive displays that does not require applying any pressure on the touchscreen to interact with the phone! As you can observe above most of the publications nowadays don't even care about Nokia's Symbian, and the main competitors of Windows Mobile are: iPhone (aka "fruitphone"), Google Android (aka "G-phone") and BlackBerry Storm (first touchscreen-based BlackBerry!). Note also: nowadays many publications mention Samsung Omnia and HTC Touch Pro as 2 top Windows Mobile phones currently on the market. Never mind multitouch: manufacturers of Windows Mobile phones need to have very responsive touchscreens, preferably capacitive ones. Otherwise destiny of Windows Mobile is further losing of the market share, and downfall...
