Korean Samsung Omnia released, offers 800x480 resolution ! November 04, 2008 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R. Unlike Japanese version of Samsung Omnia (that also offers 800x480 display) the Korean one runs Windows Mobile! We have seen several reviews (also in video) of the Japanese Samsung Omnia and none of them showed any sign of Windows Mobile, but Korean one is 100% Windows Mobile powered as Windows Mobile screenshots prove it, including big Windows Mobile logo and sheer presence of CEO of Microsoft, Steve Ballmer, at the launch event:
Samsung Omnia, on sale now in Europe, is a fantastic phone with 5 megapixel camera, tilt sensor, fluid screen transitions and stylish design, but 400x240 display resolution was off-putting for many people.... ... so the fact that Samsung is releasing version of Omnia with high resolution (800x480) may be indication, that Samsung will repair this debacle related to awkward ultra-low resolution of European Samsung Omnia - and that Samsung will release Samsung Omnia with resolution of 800x480. Samsung Omnia might be a nice handset, but since it has ultra-low resolution, we recommend other phones instead, like HTC Touch HD and Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 - both offering 800x480 resolution! If Samsung people will not come to their senses, we recommend to avoid purchase of Samsung Omnia at all. There is no place for low-resolution smartphone in 21st century. By the way: it wouldn't hurt if Samsung could also release Windows Mobile 6.1 upgrade for Samsung i780 too - this phone in American version and under name "Samsung Epix" just went on sale in USA with Windows Mobile 6.1 but users in Europe still don't have 6.1 ...
