Now iPhone beats Windows Mobile also globally - not just in USA
December 03, 2008 [General] | By Edward J. R.
Previously Windows Mobile could at least claim bigger market share globally, but now everywhere iPhone has bigger market share than Windows Mobile.
Currently, in the latest quarter, the global smartphone market share numbers are:
- Symbian : 43.6 %
- iPhone : 16.6 %
- Windows Mobile and BlackBerry, each : around 12 %
Market share in USA:
- RIM BlackBerry: 40%
- iPhone : 30%
- Windows Mobile : 17 %
- Palm OS : 10 %
Trends:
- Windows Mobile market share in global smartphone market - slight drop
- Windows Mobile market share in USA market - big drop
Conclusion: in the latest quarter iPhone has beaten Windows Mobile also globally, not just in USA. It looks also - according to latest trends - that this situation will deteriorate further for Windows Mobile. Apart from iPhone, upcoming (huge number of) Google Android phones will contribute to it too - the T-Mobile G1 unit is just the first one in huge avalanche of models from many companies.
Note: Palm was 100% telling not telling true - about reduced demand for smartphone, because total sales of smartphones increased - so in reality the demand increased, not reduced.
