Roz Ho from Microsoft interviewed by Microsoft December 08, 2008 [General] | By Edward J. R. Previously she was leading business unit of Microsoft software for Mac OS X (mainly: Office) but now she is Corporate Vice President, Premium Mobile Experiences at Microsoft (her boss is Robbie Bach and she supervises unit that is parallel to Windows Mobile and Embedded division). In other words she manages people from Danger company (that Microsoft purchased - makers of Sidekick platform) and she is supervising Microsoft hardware phone project (not revealed yet to the public) and she even wants to write a book about this project "Project Pink - Making Microsoft phone by Roz Ho" (as mentioned by her in this interview).
Roz tells us about her diverse experiences; from growing up in Hong Kong, moving to California, landing at Microsoft and how she almost left Microsoft to become an archaeologist! Roz leads a team working on consumer-focused projects in mobile communications, and her team comes first; she literally shows us what keeps her coming back to the job every day, even after 17 years. And she knows a little something about the importance and delicacy of human relationships, as she used to be the GM of the Macintosh Business Unit, where her team was responsible for the development and marketing of Mac Office. To learn more visit interview with Roz Ho from Microsoft (carried out by Microsoft's own division "channel9" - division that was once upon a time very famous because the super-blogger Robert Scoble was working there). Commentary: it is a pity, that instead of putting consumer-friendly features into Windows Mobile first, Microsoft is releasing its own phone (hardware) for that market. While leading Mac software division within Microsoft was easy for Roz Ho - Microsoft Office for Mac is selling by itself after all - the task to release a consumer phone is much more challenging obviously...
