No Zune Phone next month December 12, 2008 [General] | By Edward J. R. Roz Ho manages team of 500 people, who work on "project pink" aka "Zune Phone". It looks however that this phone will not be unveiled at CES 2009 (January 2009) after all: Microsoft will have a bunch of stuff to show at the Consumer Electronics Show in January, but a rumored ZunePhone won't be one of them, according to sources familiar with the company's plans. Instead, much of CEO Steve Ballmer's focus will be on talking about Windows 7 from a consumer perspective. Microsoft is pushing to have Windows 7 done in time for the holiday 2009 shopping season To learn more visit original source of this story about No Zune Phone at CES 2009. * * * * * Commentary Windows Mobile is just a tiny part of Microsoft revenues so no wonder that Microsoft will focus on Windows for desktop, that brings about 30% of all Microsoft revenues - tens of billions of US dollars a year, compared to 0.05 billion dollars that Windows Mobile brings. Windows Vista was not a failure but it got a lot of bad press, and apart from that Windows Vista is not suitable for (now hugely popular) netbooks, so Microsoft is releasing Windows 7 - a successor to Vista, more optimized for speed (runs well on current netbooks!) and with a dock of icons at the bottom borrowed from Mac OS X. As far as Roz Ho is concerned: we reckon that Zune Phone will be released around summer 2009, in time for Christmas 2009 shopping period. Next major announcement regarding Microsoft-powered cell phones we don't expect at CES 2009, but on February 16, 2009, 3pm, at Microsoft press conference at Mobile World Congress 2009 - the biggest, the most important, mobile phone trade show in the world (we will be there on location, reporting live through Twitter!).
