Palm App Store is a fraud December 16, 2008 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R. Palm's app store app is no more than a shortcut to the Palmgear store. It is a joke... The so-called app is about 30kb and does nothing but call up Pocket Internet Explorer:
Here is how this "store" looks like (in reality: just web pages, not an "app store" application):
Note, that the "app store" program for Apple iPhone is a separate stand-alone program, that features many more than just a website with downloads! For example the iPhone "app store" program is also checking whether new versions of applications, that you have in your phone, are available and if yes, then user is notified. Clearly this what Palm offers is not an app store but merely a web site. The split of royalties/commission is 50% / 50% and thus also in this respect this "store" is nothing special... Some job advertisements of Microsoft have leaked, where it was revealed that Microsoft is working on "Skymarket" - an app store for Windows Mobile. In the end it must be Microsoft, that should do such app store, because to achieve economy of scale, it must be placed in all Windows Mobile phones. Credit for screenshots: Alli Flowers.
