Silverlight for Windows Mobile - analysis January 01, 2009 [General] | By Edward J. R. Unlike most other websites, that never ever go to trade shows or conferences, msmobiles.com is on location in various trade shows and conferences. Furthermore unlike most other websites we are analyzing deeply situation, we practice investigative journalism, and we are not just reporting nonsense and repeating incompetent lies. ![]() (on photo above: Silverlight application running inside of Windows Mobile) Here is analysis of the Silverlight situation in Windows Mobile: Silverlight, which is a Microsoft's copy of Adobe Flash technology, is NOT available for Windows Mobile, neither officially nor unofficially. In other words: you can't get it on the Internet at all. Internally, inside of Microsoft there is a MSI file with installation of Silverlight for Windows Mobile, it is called "Silverlight 2 for Windows Mobile December 2008 CTP MSI". Furthermore to develop applications for Silverlight, including Silverlight Mobile, one needs: Visual Studio 2008 SP1, Windows Mobile 6 Professional SDK, AcitveSync (for Windows XP) or Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 (for Windows Vista), Windows Mobile 6.1.4 Emulator Images, Silverlight Tools for Visual Studio 2008 SP1. Development of Silverlight applications is very similar to .NET development and is also done in C# language. Developers might be interested to know, that certain Microsoft employee has uploaded sample Silverlight project - which is a photo viewing web application with carousel and float modes - and it is available here in a RAR file with sample Visual Studio project with sample Silverlight code. Interestingly 2 HTML files are available there TestPage.html and TestPage.Mobile.html, what indicates that Silverlight for Windows Mobile is a bit different than regular Silverlight (now available for Windows XP, Windows Vista, Mac OS X and Linux). If you have Silverlight in your browser, you can get a feeling of this sample application by going to: msmobiles.com/silverlight Conclusions:
