Less is more - Microsoft says about Windows Mobile January 09, 2009 [General] | By Edward J. R. We already received press accreditation to Mobile World Congress 2009 - the biggest most important event about cellphone industry in the world. Unlike other sites, that only copy and paste stories from the Internet, we are actually visiting events and we are reporting first-hand, and we will be reporting live also from this majestic event. Previously we already noticed that the Microsoft will have some huge announcement at Mobile World Congress 2009 next month, but now further confirmation arrived along with a hint that Microsoft wants to have less models of Windows Mobile phones to avoid dilution: The reason that Microsoft is limiting the number of phones with the operating system is because, he said, the company does not want to have its efforts diluted over too many devices. “I’d rather have fewer devices and be more focused,” he said. That way “we get better integration” between phone and operating system. Commentary: it might be that Microsoft will enforce minimal requirements on next version of Windows Mobile, so that less models of Windows Mobile phones will be available, but those that will be available will be powerful enough and feature-rich enough (tilt sensor? multi-touch display?) to impress even the most demanding users. If this is enforcement of minimal requirements, then this move of Microsoft is good. However if Microsoft will want to restrict nuber of models artificially, then it may be not good at all.
