Microsoft drops Windows Mobile 6.5, moves faster to Windows Mobile 7 January 09, 2009 [General] | By Edward J. R. Recently Microsoft's top management was mentioning Windows Mobile 6.5 in public but it looks like Windows Mobile 6.5 is missing on the road-map now:
... so maybe Microsoft is accelerating their mobility efforts and pushing Windows Mobile 7 to 2009 instead of (initially expected) 2010? Really? Read on! No! Not really. There are plenty of road-maps of various levels of granularity and obviously not all versions and sub-versions can't be covered in such roadmaps. Finally one must understand that Microsoft's marketing people at various events are showing plenty of road-maps and we have seen them ourselves, but reality very often, particularly in mobility, is different. Conclusion: now that Microsoft has strong competition not only from Apple (iPhone!) and Google (Android!), but also from Palm (WebOS+Pre), maybe Steve Ballmer, CEO of Microsoft, ordered mobility division to hurry up and to speed up Windows Mobile 7. However there is no need to speculate now - it will all be revealed on February 16, 2009 in Barcelona, EU. See also: original source of this Microsoft 2009 road-map.
