Meet Acer DX900 - the first Acer smartphone powered by Windows Mobile ! February 03, 2009 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R. Previously we have been reporting, that Acer will launch new smartphones at Mobile World Congress 2009, but now we already know that one of them will be Acer DX900:
Acer is one of top 4 PC manufacturers in the world, so the fact that they release Windows Mobile smartphones, is a big boost for Windows Mobile as a platform. More info: Acer has purchased E-TEN corporation, that has been doing Windows Mobile phones with touch-screen as long as HTC itself. E-TEN had very long tradition and expertise in doing Windows Mobile phones, so this purchase made sense. The DX900 phone was designed before the purchase of E-TEN by Acer and obviously "Acer DX900" sounds much better than "E-TEN Glofiish DX900". DX900 is not just a high-end 3G phone with GPS, VGA display and autofocus camera, but it also has ability to run 2 SIM cards simultaneously (!!!) connected to 2 networks at the same time: The Acer DX900 is amongst one of the world's first dual-SIM amd dual standby Windows Mobile handsets to support HSDPA and EDGE. The DX900 is a simple solution to an increasingly in-demand requirement for consumers who need access to two mobile communications services, but don’t want to carry around two devices at the same time. The Acer DX900 allows you to have uninterrupted access to two separate phone services, for example; one for business and one personal, or one for calls and another for data, in a single device. Frequent business travelers can use local SIM card and home SIM card in the same device at the same time. International business and cross boarder travelling becomes so much easier with this device from Acer. The DX900 features support for both high-speed 3.5G (UMTS/HSDPA) and 2G (GSM/EDGE) communications, as well as GPS and Wi-Fi connectivity, a high-resolution VGA display, and a 3-megapixel auto-focus camera. Please note: US Americans will not be able to understand importance of dual SIM ability, because there are only 2 GSM/UMTS operators in USA, compared to Europe where each country has 5 GSM/UMTS physical operators per country, plus 10-20 virtual operators on top of that... but in Europe and parts of Asia having dual-SIM phone is crucial for many people. By now if somebody wanted to have dual-SIM phone, the only option were no-name phones without 3G and rather limited set of functions. Acer DX900 changes it all for ever!
