HTC to unveil phones with 1GHz processor, HTC netbooks coming, HTC Dream unveiled February 05, 2009 [General] | By Edward J. R. After Toshiba with their Toshiba TG01, also HTC will be launching this year phones (powered by Windows Mobile also) powered by 1GHz processor (Snapdragon from Qualcomm). Apart from that HTC is entering netbook market: ... because HTC intends to use Intel Atom processors that are nowadays used widely in netbooks, i.e. cheap mini-notebooks. Note: HTC already has Windows Vista powered device in their portfolio - HTC Shift, however it costs over 1000 dollars/Euro and practically it has price level equal to high-end notebooks with ultra-fast Core 2 Duo processors. For comparison's sake: for around 400-500 dollars/Euro one can get now a netbook with built-in HSDPA/3G (for example: LG X110 that is widely available). Clearly netbooks are taking away market share from smartphones but also from high-end ultra mobile PCs like HTC Shift, so HTC must act or just keep watching the loss of market share. By the way: it is worth noticing that today (!), in Singapore, HTC has launched HTC Dream powered by Google Android - or in other words T-Mobile G1 but with HTC-only branding. HTC Dream features capacitive display (touch to interact, no need to press) so there is hope that Windows Mobile phones with 1 GHz processor, that HTC will be announcing in less than 2 weeks at Mobile World Congress 2009 - will also have such display...
