Visual Studio 2010 drops Smart Device (Windows Mobile) development May 21, 2009 [General] | By Edward J. R. What is wrong with Microsoft? Firstly it discriminates against developers from some countries (that's disgusting!) and now we have just learned that next Visual Studio - Visual Studio 2010 will be crippled and will not include Windows Mobile development tools! Google offers totally free development kit for Google Android and Apple offers totally free development kit for iPhone (and with the same kit one can create for free also apps for desktop Mac computers) but Microsoft not only demands big money for their development kit but increases segmentation in their tools. So no longer Windows Mobile development in Visual Studio: The new Visual Studio 2010 Beta is now available for MSDN subscribers. Whilst those interested in cloud services, website and windows development will lust over this new release, Windows Mobile developers will most certainly dislike it, since the support for Smart Device (Windows Mobile and CE) development has been dropped altogether! So not only Windows Mobile developers not see an upgrade to the tools and IDE, they will also have to keep using Visual Studio 2008 in order to keep writing code for Windows Mobile Phones... Note: while Microsoft claims that Windows Mobile 6.5 is ready and finalized, still Microsoft has not released development kit and emulator for it.
