Windows Mobile in show biz: Motorola Q sighted in Night at the Museum 2 ( Battle of the Smithsonian )
May 29, 2009 [MS Smartphone] | By Edward J. R.

Is it Windows Mobile phone on your belt, Mr. Ben Stiller?

In a movie for kids "Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian" aka "Night at the Museum 2" the main character played by Ben Stiller is using Motorola Q smartphone powered by Windows Mobile! We couldn't exactly spot which Q model it is, but it is definitely a Motorola Q powered by Windows Mobile. This is number one movie this week in USA with regard to income from ticket sales, so millions of viewers can see this phone!

However this Motorola Q phone is not just a background product placement but it is involved in the story! Here is how it goes: the hero goes to Smithsonian museum where characters come to live, but not only characters: also a photo of American soldiers returning from World War 2 comes to live (the famous one - where a soldier kisses a nurse) and hero ventures into this black-and-white world of the photo. During his adventures there he is losing his Motorola smartphone in that world and leaves it... and the movie moves on back in the 'real' world. However at the end of the movie, when credits are rolling, a sailor Joey Motorola - located in that black and white world of the photo - is decomposing and analyzing this phone - indicating that it is how Motorola corporation (that invented cellphone the in first place) was established - by a guy called "Motorola".

Obviously it is not true as the name "Motorola" comes not from a family name of a guy, but it comes from combination of "motor" and "Victrola" (an ancient sound machine made by Victor Talking Machine Company).

While it is nice to see Windows Mobile phone in a movie, unfortunately Motorola is in deep crisis now and is focusing now more on their upcoming Google Android phones, than on Windows Mobile smartphones...
