HTC Touch Diamond2 comparison to HTC Touch Diamond (Diamond1) + first impressions June 03, 2009 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R. We have just received HTC Touch Diamond2! Before we will publish full review (on Sunday, June 7th, 2009) of this nice phone, here we are presenting first impressions and comparison to HTC Touch Diamond aka Diamond1. HTC Touch Diamond2 will 100% for sure get official (!) upgrade to Windows Mobile 6.5, so if you don't fancy QWERTY keyboard (that is offered by HTC Touch Pro2) and if you like higher resolution camera (Diamond2 offers 5 megapixel compared to 3 megapixel of Pro2) then this might be phone for you and you can buy it NOW without worrying that your operating system will become obsolete soon. HTC Touch Diamond2 is slightly longer and thicker than old Diamond but it has higher-resolution display (800x480 instead of 640x480) that is also physically bigger and it also features bigger battery:
On the backside, the surface of Diamond2 is flat so you can comfortably put it on a table without wobbling:
As can be observed above: there is no round cursor pad with zooming by circling anymore. Instead there is zoom area under the display. As you can see the difference in thickness is not big:
When it comes to stereo headset connector then nothing changed here, still users need to use HTC's ExtUSB connector:
The battery is much bigger so now SIM card slot is placed under the battery:
The new HTC Touch Diamond2 has battery of size 1100 mAh compared to 900 mAh of an old HTC Touch Diamond:
Conclusion: stay tuned for our full review but in meantime we can only say that HTC Touch Diamond2 is a solid successor to an old Diamond phone and overall a very good smartphone. Special thanks to Eric Lin from HTC, John Szymanski from Nelson Bostock and Sarah Behan from Nelson Bostock - for arranging the loaner unit for review.
