HTC admits mistake and promises 3.5 mm in future, really? July 09, 2009 [General] | By Edward J. R. During our chit-chat with John Wang, the Chief Marketing Officer of HTC (at the latest HTC launch event) we almost got a promise from him that all future HTC phones will have 3.5 mm stereo miniplug. Almost, but not quite. Now it looks like that some undisclosed person from HTC (high enough to be believable?) has confirmed that HTC is changing their ways and switching to 3.5 mm: The vast majority of devices we launch after Hero will have a 3.5mm jack. Devices that we have already announced but that still come out after Hero will not necessarily be a part of this change. To learn more, visit related story about 3.5mm at HTC (a bit dubious considering that they don't say who said it). Commentary: we still don't believe that this change is certain as it is unknown from whom exactly above quote is coming. Such anonymous claims, without person attached to them, have zero weight as later HTC can always say that they didn't say anything like that. We have been "whining" about this issue for years already but times are changing, and now things that seemed to be of small importance in past, are nowadays not acceptable at all. One is for sure: personally we are not going to buy any phone from HTC, or from any other manufacturer for that matter, that would be missing 3.5 mm stereo miniplug. It's over and not acceptable to force users to endure pain.
