Microsoft publishes Case Study: porting from iPhone to Windows Mobile but no info how to get rich August 01, 2009 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R. Let's face it: developers need buzz for their apps to stand out in crowded marketplace. So we can expect that more and more iPhone developers will be selling their soul to Microsoft in return for a buzz generated by articles, stories and these "case studies". The application described in this article about porting from iPhone to Windows Mobile is very primitive and does not involve 3D graphics with use of OpenGL ES that would be very difficult to port, as Windows Mobile is not supporting this industry-standard library. Nonetheless we are impressed that Microsoft is doing it, although there is no info how to get rich with Windows Mobile app store... yet. Whatever is your opinion about Windows Mobile, the reality is that Windows Mobile app store, that is launching in September 2009, will have much less apps than iPhone app store (that has already 65,000 apps in it) so it will be easier for developers to stand out, i.e. to earn money, than it is in iPhone app store... Interestingly this case study covers only Windows Mobile 6.5: This case study documents the efforts and experiences of an iPhone application developer in porting the iPhone application Amplitude to a phone running Windows Mobile 6.5. Based on his experience, it offers technical depth, code samples, useful links, observations, and tips to help accelerate porting projects. It is intended for developers who have written applications for the iPhone using the Objective-C language and would like to port their applications to Windows phones. To learn more, visit:
