MonoTouch - writing iPhone apps with use of Microsoft .NET techology August 07, 2009 [General] | By Edward J. R. Poor Windows Mobile: it looks like there is NOTHING that is unique to Windows Mobile. Previously some company ported .NET Compact Framework to Symbian and now .NET developers can write apps for iPhone with use of .NET technology: MonoTouch allows developers to create C# and .NET based applications that run on the iPhone and can take advantage of the iPhone APIs as well as reusing both code and libraries that have been built for .NET as well as existing skills. Developers can use the iPhone simulator to test their applications as well as using MonoTouch on the final device and ship applications to the Apple AppStore for distribution. Mono is an open-source implementation of .NET technology and MonoTouch extends it to iPhone. Practically it means that now Windows Mobile has absolutely zero USP - unique selling points - as .NET can be used to write apps also for other mobile platforms, not just for Windows Mobile. Since writing apps in .NET is very easy, much easier than using native code, having it for Windows Mobile was seen as advantage. Not anymore, now other platforms can use it too...
