Windows Mobile app store will have kill switch September 16, 2009 [General] | By Edward J. R. Mauricio Freitas from New Zealand is no longer a Windows Mobile MVP so now he is totally unbiased. He pointed out to us something very important: I thought that the automatic removal of banned applications from devices was something new (I don’t remember seeing it mentioned anywhere) and I think it’s troubling – like Apple’s kill switch on iPhone and Amazon being able to delete your ebooks on the Kindle. ... and previously he wrote also in a report from Tech Ed 2009 New Zealand (but we were too sleepy out of overwork to notice): If an application is approved but later removed from the marketplace it will then be automatically removed from all mobile devices Commentary: Windows Mobile app store is worse than Apple app store because developers need to pay $99 for only 5 app submissions and they need to pay additional money for more submissions and for submissions to more countries while Apple app store has one fixed flat fee of $99 for everything unlimited. Now we learn that, unlike in Apple app store, where apps that are unapproved are not removed from devices, Microsoft will be removing apps from your Windows Mobile phone, if for some reason some app will be unapproved. This is not acceptable, this is very bad. Credit: Mauricio Freitas, New Zealand.
