Confirmed with photos: Microsoft Pink is just a Sidekick phone of next generation - phew! September 24, 2009 [General] | By Edward J. R. So this supposedly revolutionary Microsoft Pink project about which Roz Ho wants to write a book, are just next generation Sidekick phones - previously made by "Danger" company that Microsoft purchased for 400 millions? Apparently yes and those "Microsoft experts" who doubted that Apple-related site could have proper information about Microsoft mobility were wrong as now photos are confirming that that site was right! Here are Turtle and Pure phones from Microsoft:
So why these phones might be interesting at all? Well... Since Microsoft has failed to put Zune services (subscription music service) to Windows Mobile 6.5 and Windows Mobile 7 is too far away, it might be that these 2 phones will be the first to offer integrated Zune service! Since these are phones it is likely that they will offer app store, but it is unclear whether it will be small and very limited Java midlets - as it was in previous versions of Sidekick - or maybe .NET-based XNA apps. Although Zune HD can run games made with XNA, there is no app store for Zune yet and one doesn't know yet if these 2 "pink" phones indeed are even powered by Windows CE at all. One is for sure: they are not (!) powered by Windows Mobile. See also: original source of these photos of "pink" phones + high-resolution version of these photos.
