Here we are presenting full review of the Windows Mobile app store that Microsoft calls "Windows Marketplace for Mobile" (for video review see the bottom of this story): If your Windows Mobile 6.5 phone doesn't have Windows Marketplace for Mobile installed yet, then clicking on it's icon invokes this question:
Then Windows Marketplace for Mobile is being downloaded:
... and installed:
After that, every time you start Windows Marketplace for Mobile it is checking if new version exists on Microsoft servers:
Here is how the Windows Mobile app store i.e. Windows Marketplace for Mobile generally looks like:
You can selected whether you want to see free apps, paid apps or all apps:
The "Exit" menu item is also included, what is great news as in past Microsoft was reluctant to put it into their Windows Mobile apps:
You can do the search for some specific term (here we were searching for "radio"):
Instead of searching, you can also browse through categories:
Interestingly categories in Windows Marketplace for Mobile are not flat, so there is first level:
... and also deeper levels of cateogries (i.e. sub-categories):
When you are at the bottom of category hierarchy of Windows Marketplace for Mobile you can see the list of apps with prices, names, icons and ratings:
Each app in Windows Marketplace for Mobile has description:
... and also reviews (if available, see also below!) and screen shots:
When you try to install an app, whether it is free or commercial, you cannot if you don't log in into the Windows Marketplace for Mobile:
However if you logged in into the Windows Marketplace for Mobile you can download apps:
... and you can use them right away. In the menu item "My Applications" from the "Home" of the Windows Marketplace for Mobile you can manage apps that you have downloaded through Windows Marketplace for Mobile:
... and obviously you can post reviews of apps that you have downloaded:
Conclusion: Windows Marketplace for Mobile (aka Windows Mobile app store) is working and is offers all necessary features, including support for commercial (not free) apps, rating apps (including writing reviews) and seeing screen shots and not just textual descriptions. Good work, Microsoft! PS. here is a video review of the Windows Marketplace for Mobile:
