Palm lies about Windows Mobile October 17, 2009 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R. Just recently Palm was a major maker of Windows Mobile phones, but now not only Palm has dumped Windows Mobile, but is also badmouthing it...
On photo above you can see a snapshot from a TV commercial that Palm is running now in UK. In this commercial Palm claims that Palm Pre is the only phone with multi-tasking - "multiple applications at the same time". Obviously it is a lie, as also Windows Mobile powered smartphones support multi-tasking and ability to run multiple apps at the same time. While Palm wants to differentiate itself from iPhone that cannot run "multiple applications at the same time", it misses the fact that Windows Mobile can do it. O2 UK has lost exclusivity for iPhone in UK, so now people are fleeing O2 to Vodafone (better coverage and better data transfers) and to Orange (better tariffs). That's why O2 decided to pick Palm Pre to have another "cool" smartphone in their offering on the exclusivity basis (we hate these exclusivity arrangements as they make operators to focus on handsets instead of services). While Palm Pre is an interesting platform - based on web techologies operating system called "webOS" and a handset with multi-touch and physical keyboard, it has very small display, only few apps compared to Windows Mobile and quality of photos from its camera is mediocre, not very good. Conclusion: maybe Microsoft instead of using creepy icon-looking height-challenged people in their Windows phone TV commercials, should also underline that simple and powerful fact: Windows phone (also) can run "multiple applications at the same time"...
