What is the official price of HTC HD2? October 18, 2009 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R. There is no doubt about it that HTC HD2, that is launching next month in several countries, is the best Windows Mobile phone in the world. However the question remains: how much does it cost? What is the official price? The answer is available and provided by HTC manager for DACH countries (i.e. D = Germany, A = Austria and CH = Switzerland), who mentioned it clearly: 619 Euro. Apart from his mention also several German publications that have information from official HTC sources are saying that the price is 619 Euro. So how much it is in other currencies? Here it goes: 619 Euro = 563 British pounds = 922 US dollars Now, if you take a look at pricing at various online retailers for German market then the price is: 640 Euro. Retailers for British market are offering HD2 for price that varies from 505 GBP (Clove) to 550 GBP (some other online retailers). It looks therefore that pricing of HD2 for UK is lower than for Euro-currency region. Probably HTC is using older conversion rate pound/Euro and in this way Brits will be able to get HD2 for a lower price than continental Europeans. Note: our general impression is that if you already have a phone powered by Windows Mobile 6.1 then upgrading to Windows Mobile 6.5 phone does not make sense if you don't get something superior like for example Snapdragon 1GHz processor (Acer s200, Toshiba TG01, HTC HD2) or a display with multitouch (HTC HD2). Furthermore it is worth mentioning that it is absolutely uncertain whether HTC HD2 will be upgradeable to Windows Mobile 7 at all... and since Windows Mobile 7 is coming soon (our estimation: in February it will be announced to the public in Barcelona and first phones coming in Summer 2010)... maybe buying HD2 is a bit pointless, particularly if HTC doesn't promise upgrade path to Windows Mobile 7, particularly if you would have to pay more than official price of 619 Euro.
