Blunders of Microsoft in Mobility: new operating system on old phone October 30, 2009 [General] | By Edward J. R. We have noticed many mistakes that Microsoft has made over the years. We are starting a new series of stories called "Blunders of Microsoft in Mobility" where we will be pointing out various errors and mistakes of Microsoft in the area of cellphones. Many of these mistakes are caused by incompetence and lack of proper diligence at work. Some of these mistakes are caused by nepotism and lack of passion for the mobility. All in all these blunders occur and since Microsoft surrenders itself with layers and layers of yes-sayers, very often nobody even notices them. Today is easy one, just take a look at this picture from the main page of Microsoft's Windows Marketplace for Mobile (aka Windows Mobile app store):
Can you spot the blunder? Well, if you go to the main page of Windows Marketplace of Mobile then you can see the picture above. At first you might think: hey, wait a minute, this is an old HTC Diamond phone and Marketplace app for this phone will be released by the end of 2009 so what's the big deal? Well, that may be right or not - we will see yet, but one is for sure: HTC will never release Windows Mobile 6.5 upgrade for this old phone! HTC wants you to buy new phones and "poor" Microsoft cannot do anything. The blunder therefore is this: Microsoft is using old phone and new operating system on this phone, that is not available for this phone and this phone is not being sold with this operating system too. This is a misrepresentation that might confuse customers and shame on Microsoft! * * * * * If you know of other blunders of Microsoft in the area of cellphones, let us know!
