Microsoft is charging Windows Mobile developers indefinitely more than Apple and Google February 06, 2010 [General] | By Edward J. R. Can you believe that? Market share of Windows Mobile is sinking like Titanic, and competitors have tens of thousands of apps (compared to less than one thousand in Windows Mobile app store), plenty of which are not available at all (!) for Windows Mobile, and what is Microsoft doing? Microsoft is charging Windows Mobile developers indefinitely more than Apple and Google as you can see in this comparison:
Conclusion: while Apple and Google make it possible to make unlimited app submissions, and to release unlimited number of updates - both without additional fees, Microsoft is charging, charging, charging for everything. Microsoft even is charging for additeional markets/countries while Google and Apple allows for submission to the whole world without any additional fees. In other words; developers can keep developing and releasing apps and updates for Google and Apple without the need to worry about additional fees, but Windows Mobile developers have these fees in front of their eyes the whole time. The matter of fact is that Microsoft offers the worst conditions for mobile software developers and the result is simple: there are plenty of apps for iPhone and Android that are not available at all for Windows Mobile. Microsoft: it's time to wake up and smell the competition, because nowadays smartphone wars are about app wars. While HTC HD2 might have better hardware than iPhone 3GS and than Nexus One, lack of apps for Windows Mobile makes it worse choice for end users. $99 per app submission and $10 for submission to additional market/country is indefinitely more than zero - fee that Apple and Google charge.
